Mixing Purples
When it comes to mixing colours, purple is an intriguing and versatile colour that offers a lot of creative possibilities and is one of my favourite colours to use when painting bright watercolour florals.
As a secondary colour, it can be produced by mixing red and blue, but the exact shade of purple can vary greatly depending on the specific shades of red and blue used.
However, the fun doesn't stop there! You can experiment with different amounts of either colour to produce a warmer or cooler purple, depending on your preference.
In the following video, you can see my experiments with colour mixing. However, instead of red, I’m using Pink, which I feel helps to create a more rich and more vibrant purple. I am using two different brands of concentrated watercolours - Schmincke Aqua Drops in Ink Blue and Dr P.h. Martin’s Concentrated Watercolours in Alpine Rose.
